Alfredo Calcagno holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Paris I. In Argentina, between 1984 and 1989, he was advisor, successively, to the Secretary of Planning, the Under-Secretary of Economic Policy and the President of the Central Bank, and researcher at the International Economy Centre. He then joined the United Nations, where he was economic affairs officer, first at ECLAC, and later at UNCTAD, until his retirement in 2017. As the Head of the Macroeconomic and Development Policies Branch, he was co-author and coordinator of UNCTAD’s Trade and Development Report. He is currently professor of Economic Development at the National University of Quilmes. Among other works, he is co-author of El Universo Neoliberal and Manual del Estado.
